Engine pics

How many Air Baltic engine pics can I take? A lot apparently.

Not an engine pic but no place else to include. Greg seemed excited at what type of plane this was but yeah, I’ve got nothing at this point.

In flight shopping

One of my favorite things to do despite never having actually purchased a single thing.

I’m finding all the perfect Christmas gifts for Brooks (sorry to ruin the surprises Brooks except I probably won’t actually follow through on this shopping since my track record for airline shopping is zero.)

He definitely needs this bar cart
And these organizers
And this sofa
Found a CD player!
I need all these smart cups to keep my coffee warm which reminds me I need coffee bad.
This guy is so cute!
Aigner is a thing!
I need this green jacket and this apple strudel.
I could kill some Bio-Kesselchips
The saddest most uninspiring pretzel ever
Anniversary specials the month of May! Umm what?
The offer in flight service for flights over 45 mins. That wouldn’t happen in US.

Air Baltic

Our flight to Budapest leaves at 6:45am so our meeting time this morning was 5:30am. We have to check our bags (backpacks are too large for European carry on) which I’m not mad about. We just aren’t sure how much time to allow so we are erring on the early side.

Everyone slept well, likely because we were all just completely spent.

Airport is mostly empty
I win the non competition for lightest bag at 9.9kg
Headed to security
Not sure how many fuchs I have to give this morning
Ooof. Carey’s bag got stopped for additional screening

We are all through and headed to the gate.

Seafood Meats Asia is popping
I want everything here.
So cute!
Cigarette anyone?
Cleared for boarding! Not sure how we were some of the first ones on. Normally this is like a cattle call.
There seems to be some issue but it’s too late for me to go back.
Mostly empty plane
Cute screen

Hotel, Dinner and Bed

We made it to the hotel easily, grabbed our bags from the concierge and waited for Greg to get us checked in. After waiting in basically a non moving line he was told he needed our passports which were still in his bag. After retrieving those quickly and basically telling the front desk clerk that she wasn’t going to help the Americans directly behind him who also didn’t have their passports ready we finally had the keys to our two rooms and were headed up to the rooms.

We were both on the second floor but located as far apart as we possibly could be. I’m pretty sure that was the front desk’s gift to Greg after he literally told her “no” to I’m going to help these people.

Our rooms are both super nice so they were worth the wait.

View from our window

The plan was to decompress a little bit and then meet back up for dinner. Greg and I worked a little bit and then we were all off in search of food.

Hotel lobby

Airport restaurants are our only option. We checked out a few places and ended up at a restaurant we ate at on our last trip. It has a ski chalet vibe. I was so tired I literally took no pics.

Munich airport
Menu for what it’s worth
Lights changed colors

We made it back to our rooms. Completely exhausted but all in agreement that we had a successful first day. We assume that was our hardest day powering through with essentially zero sleep.

The good news is that we all had a great day and we will actually like each other! Maybe the beer helped.

Time for bed

We can almost call it a day

We decide to leisurely make our way out into the city from the pagoda to begin our trip back to the hotel. The weather has been close to perfect. There were times when we were slightly chilly with a breeze but overall we really lucked out.

Another beer garden
We saw these random birds on our last trip in the same field.
US consulate
We considered popping in for a visit. It looked so welcoming.
Outside walkway
We have heard some great musicians today who are all selling CD’s. I’m not even sure how you play a CD these days.
Another outdoor walkway with super intricate paintings
Anyone need a Lotus or a Mercedes?
Church
Genesis showroom
Didn’t know that Aigner was still a thing
Random piano player playing Coldplay in the middle of the road.
Cute flower shop
Made it to the train station to head to hotel

Pagoda

The surfing occurs on the outer edge of an English park that contains a pagoda. Weirdest sentence ever but it’s accurate. Greg is obsessed with the pagoda and is convinced Louisville needs one.

We walked along the paths making our way to the mother land. Or pagoda.

Dogs playing
No one wants to walk up the hill bad enough to see this.
Behold. The pagoda.

It’s been over an hour since our last meal so feels right to eat again. This time we got random things and split them. Or rather Greg and I got random things and Linda and Carry nibbled with us.

Not my grandma’s spaetzels.
Fanciest onion rings ever
Apple fritter with vanilla sauce
One more for good measure.

Before trying to eke out one more hour of walking we stopped at the restroom.

Cigs anyone?

City surfing

We strolled for approximately 20 minutes towards the raging water in the middle of the city where people surf. It’s crazy how much water there is as well as the number of surfers in the middle of what should be the work day.

Tunnel under the road
This guy is basically getting dressed in the street.
Interesting
One after the other after the other. All day every day.
Pretty sure this is a parking attendant who just keeps his surf board handy.

Outdoor Market

We decided to stroll through an outdoor market that was close. Brooks and I had been here before and enjoyed it.

Paper birds installed as a peace showing.
These birds have been on quite the journey.
Lit a candle for Greg’s grandmother.
Cute flower shop
I need several of these
Another beer garden
Fruit and veggie stand
Large mushroom
Maypole
I need these wreaths
Need!
Locals eating lunch
I need some Linda’s!
Fruit stand
Carey checking the map again
Not sure what this sign means but pretty sure they don’t have ice cream.
One last view

Next up….surfing! Watching. Not participating.

Hofbraus House

It’s now 11:15. Time for a beer. Better head to the Hofbraus house where we know we can count on the beer to be good, cold and plentiful.

But first holy cow. This is my dirndl. It’s perfect!
Greg always “knows” exactly where he’s going.
We have arrived!
When in Rome!
It’s been a few hours since we have eaten. Might as well get a bite.
Greg is so impressed with how many beers they can carry at once.
My dream job. Selling pretzels
Potato soup
Greg ordered the four wieners off the menu. Literally.
We are unsure what this is even after tasting it.
Linda and Carey split some suspect meatloaf.
Band started playing at noon.
Why aren’t our bathroom signs this cute?
These tables are clearly regulars. The keep their steins there and they fill them when they come.

After our snack and drinks we decide to head to the next stop.

Marienplatz continued

We walked to the Marienplatz with about ten mins to spare. Initially there weren’t a ton of people there waiting.

Worst selfie ever but since I put other people on the blog gotta sell myself out too. But also we have been up for 24 hours basically.
We walked into a courtyard that had these cute lions. I really wanted to take a pic with one but decided not to.

Greg’s parents walked in after us and when they met us Linda said did you get a pic with the lion? I said no, did you?

Go her!

We made our way back to the glockenspiel and it’s getting really crowded now. We chose a nice spot in the sun to watch the show.

Greg somehow remembered mostly all the details from the first time we saw it. I didn’t remember much of anything. Once the show was over, as noted by the giant gold bird singing, we made our way to the next stop.
